Lately, I’ve been bombarding my creative juices with a lot of movie watching and writing. I’m trying not to spend money and have become a hermit until the funds start flowing in again. My best friend the past couple of weekends has been my computer, the movie theatre (thank you Cineplex Odeon gift card) and my t.v. I’ve been catching up on old movies and dvd collections that I’ve been meaning to watch. This past weekend I watched all three Godfather’s. I’ve seen them when I was younger but have had the urge to re watch them and appreciate the amazing film making of Francis Ford Coppola. I must say the Italians know how to make a film. Then again, I am bias! I found this You tube clip of Al Pacino’s audition, the early days of his career and found it inspiring. A young unknown actor snubbed by the networks but admired and persisted by the director. Sometimes you just need to trust that when the role is right it’s right. – Christina XO

ThE goOd oL dAys

For those who know me, I’m a very nostalgic person. You give me a picture of when I was 4, I’d probably start to cry. Show me a picture of my grandparents dancing like Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire …TEARS. One of my favorite things to do when I go back home is flip through the  many albums that my dad put together over the years. I’m not talking about just one or two but A LOT. They range from the early 70’s (my favorite) to the present day. I look at the days of when I was a wee little peanut, the things my family did, what I wore, old class photos, who we spent time with and always wipe the drool from my mouth as I gaze at the cool old vintage clothing that I wish had been saved for me. I laugh at the fact that my brother and I looked like twin boys and savour every moment down memory lane. I love it! No one can take that lane away. It will always be there and I will continue to cherish the special memories I’ve had. “In My Life” by the Beatles is a very special song to me. I think anyone who hears it can attach their own personal memories to it. I was just listening to it when it reminded me of when my best friend who I consider my sister, Julie (sevendollarpants) made me a video montage for my 16th birthday which were pictures of us through the previous pubescent years. This one is by far one of my all time favorites. This picture was taken at my birthday party. I’m a few years older than Julie. There was a moment in our childhood when I asked her mom, “Can I hold the baby? Here,we are both sporting fashionable plastic rings and bracelets. I, in my Strawberry Shortcake slippers, tomato pants, and heart T-shirt smiling with the gap between my teeth and the cowlick  in my hair. And Julie a.k.a “Noopy” sheepishly grinning to the side, her cute little mushroom cut hair  and sporting a tomato jumper and fuzzy red socks. We probably planned our outfits. Ahhhh the good ol days – ……..I can’t help but laugh every time I look at this picture. – Christina XO

Hittin The Town

Last night I finally got to see, “The Town” directed by Ben Affleck, staring Ben Affleck, Rebecca Hall, John Hamm (Woo hoo) and Jeremy Renner (new crush). I was on the edge of my seat and held my breathe a few times during the film.  From the direction to the acting, I thought the film was really well done. Way to go Ben Affleck! The Town is a dramatic thriller about robbers and cops, friendship and betrayal, love and hope, and escaping a past that has no future. In the Boston neighbourhood of Charlestown, Doug MacCray is the leader of a crew of ruthless bank robbers. But everything changed on the gang’s last job when they took bank manager Claire Keesey hostage. Questioning what she saw, Doug seeks out Claire. As their relationship deepens, Doug wants out of this life and the town, but now he must choose whether to betray his friends or lose the woman he loves. Ch ch ch check it out! – Christina XO

Here’s Johnny.

I had a great Halloween weekend! This time of year nothing beats the the falling leaves, the atmosphere, the smell of crisp  air and the eeriness of the nights. Every night in the fall reminds me of Halloween.  I was stressing about a costume but it all fell into place (pictures to follow). Saturday night I ended up hanging out with a couple of pals at my all time favorite bar, 6 Acres . You can never go wrong here. We turned the place into a dance party afterwards and let me tell you there’s nothing like a good shake to the bootie accompanied by amazing music! Last night we went over to another friends place for dinner and a scary movie. We watched one of my favorite Kubrick films none other than,  THE SHINING. Why don’t they make good horror films these days? Today its just big tits, a good looking face, blood, and a cheese ball acting. If you haven’t seen The Shining it’s about a family heading to an isolated hotel for the winter where  an evil and spiritual presence influences the father into violence, while his psychic son sees horrific forebodings from the past and of the future. What’s your favorite scary movie? – Christina XO

The Selby

If you haven’t browsed through Todd Selby’s vibrant new book,The Selby is in your place” I highly suggest you do. I first noticed it in a store window a while back (yes bright colors do stop me in my tracks as well as other things) and immediately started browsing through it. I couldn’t put this book down. Todd Selby is a photographer, blogger and fashion celebrity who takes portraits of compelling and creative people including authors, artists, designers, musicians and friends. He goes into their home environment (with their approval of course) and captures their lifestyle in an eclectic, interesting and artful way. Each profile is accompanied by watercolor portraits of his subjects and objects from their homes.  It explodes with rich color, vintage pieces, art, mini interviews and a glimpse of people’s personal spaces such as their lofts, apartments, closets, bedrooms, you name it, he captures it. Todd takes us to New York City, Los Angeles, and other amazing places around the globe. I’ve been very inspired by many of the interior designs and accents in these places and admit to being a bit obsessed with redecorating my place with a few of these unique ideas. It never hurts to spruce up your living space with a few antiques and vintage pieces, Non?  Check out www.theselby.com for further info on the amazing Todd Selby. And Todd if your reading, you can take my picture anytime. – Christina XO

Benefits of the Flu

The past two days I’ve had the flu. I just said to a friend last week, “I never get the flu”, and BOOM! I spoke to soon.  The best part of having the flu aside from the aches, pains, pooping, and nausea is the fact that you are forced to lay in bed, sleep and relax. In my case, I didn’t get out of bed until 3pm. I slept and knocked off 6 episodes of Californication Season 3. I love catching up on my T.V shows via box set. I don’t usually have time to watch television so it’s great to watch them consecutively. Californication is about writer, Hank Moody trying to juggle his career, relationship with his daughter, and his ex girlfriend as well as his appetite for beautiful women. Watch it! You’ll be addicted too. – Christina XO
